DIGITAL COMMUNICATOR

A Digital Communicator is a device attached to the Intruder Alarm control panel and linked to a telephone line.

When the alarm system is activated coded electronic signals are transmitted down the telephone line to an Alarm Receiving Centre.
On receipt of these signals all relevant Police Authority and key-holder information of the alarmed premises are displayed on the operators screen and notified accordingly.

The advantage of the Digital Communicator is it's fairly low cost to install and monitor, however its disadvantage is, that if the telephone line is cut the Alarm Receiving Centre cannot receive the signals and would be unaware of the line cut.

This unit is still popular in many domestic installations but most insurance companies require a higher level of signalling for commercial premises.
