GUIDE TO POLICE FORCE POLICY

Recent changes to Police Force Policy requires that all Intruder Alarms fitted with remote signalling devices after October 2002 must transmit a confirmed alarm before the ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) can notify the police of the activation.

A confirmed alarm means two or more consecutive signals from separate detection devices or areas within the protected premises, e.g. an intruder would have to activate two separate zones of the alarm system before a confirmed alarm was received by the ARC.

Should only one device be triggered then one signal is transmitted, this is referred to as an unconfirmed activation and only the key-holder is notified.

Where a single path monitored signalling system is installed such as Redcare , any line cut signal received would be regarded as an unconfirmed alarm and therefore not policed but key-holder only advised.

Where a Dual path signalling system is installed such as DualCom or Redcare GSM any line cut signals received would be regarded as unconfirmed alarms and only key-holders informed, but should someone then intrude into the premises and activate the alarm system the first signal received by the ARC would be classed as a confirmed signal and the Police are notified accordingly.

Before any signalling system can be installed which requires a Police response, a URN (Unique Reference Number) must be obtained by the alarm company from the police alarms administration office. The police require a cheque to the sum of £30 with every application together with information of at least two key-holders. The key-holders must reside within a twenty-minute response time from being called by the ARC.
