REDCARE ( BT)

B T Redcare is a form of signalling provided by British Telecom.

A device known as a STU (Subscribers Terminal Unit) is attached to the intruder alarm control panel and linked to the telephone line.

The STU is constantly sending and receiving pulse signals to/from a central host computer terminal in a BT exchange. This terminal is then linked to an ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) who monitors the system.

Any alarm signals received by the ARC are then passed to the relevant Police Authority and key-holders accordingly.

Should the telephone line be cut the STU would be unable to communicate with the host computer, which would then send a communications failure signal to the ARC

The ARC would then notify the relevant key-holder to advise of the situation.

Due to recent changes in Police Force Policy the Police are no longer called on Redcare telephone line cuts, so if a Police response should be a requirement in this situation consider a Dual path signalling system such as Dual Com or Redcare GSM

Redcare will not work on a telephone line which transmits data . i.e. fax or modems etc.
